What to expect from a Sound Therapy session

Before your session

Before your first session, you’ll be asked to complete a short health questionnaire. This helps ensure sessions are suitable and supportive for you.

There is very little else you need to do beforehand. Simply arrive in comfortable clothing and allow yourself time to slow down and settle into the space.

At the beginning of the session

All personalised 1:1 sessions begin with a gentle check-in.

This is not about analysing everything or needing to explain your life story. You are never expected to share more than feels comfortable.

The intention is simply to notice how you are feeling physically, mentally and emotionally in that moment, allowing the session to be shaped around what feels most supportive for you.

For Sound Experiences, there is no reflective element or discussion. You simply arrive, get comfortable and settle into the sound therapy session.

During the session

You’ll lie down comfortably while carefully applied sound helps create an environment of deep rest and relaxation.

As the body and mind begin to slow down, many people notice a greater sense of calm, stillness and emotional space.

There is nothing you need to “do” during the session. The experience is designed to feel effortless, supportive and deeply restorative.

What you may notice

After the session

Every session is different, and there is no “right” way to experience sound therapy.

Some people notice deep relaxation, a quieter mind, softer physical tension or a greater sense of calm and emotional space.

Others simply enjoy the opportunity to properly rest and switch off for a period of time.

You may notice a lot, a little or nothing particularly obvious during the session itself, and all experiences are completely normal.

At the end of the session, there is time to gently re-ground and reflect on how you are feeling.

Some people leave feeling calm and refreshed immediately, while for others the effects can feel more gradual over the following hours or days.

Where appropriate, you may also be offered simple suggestions to help support relaxation and nervous system regulation between sessions.

FAQs

Do I need any experience with sound therapy?
No experience is needed. You don’t need to prepare or know what to expect. Simply arriving as you are is enough.

What happens during a sound therapy session?

You’ll lie down comfortably and rest while carefully applied sound is used throughout the session. Sessions are designed to support deep relaxation and help the body and mind slow down naturally, with no effort required from you.

Do I need to talk about anything personal?
No. There is no expectation to talk or share personal information. A brief check-in helps guide the session, but you are always in control of what you choose to share.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax easily. You’ll remain fully clothed throughout the session.

How might I feel during or after a session?

People often leave sessions feeling calmer, more grounded or deeply rested. Some notice a quieter mind, softer physical tension or a greater sense of emotional space. Experiences vary from person to person and can feel different each time.

What if I don’t feel anything?
That’s completely normal. Some people notice subtle changes later rather than during the session itself. There is no right or wrong response to sound therapy.

Is sound therapy safe?
Sound therapy is a gentle, non-invasive practice suitable for most people. You’ll complete a brief health questionnaire before your first session to ensure it’s appropriate for you.

Does sound therapy replace medication or medical treatment?
No. Sound therapy does not replace medication, medical care, or any other treatments you may be receiving. It is a complementary approach designed to support wellbeing alongside existing healthcare.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on what you’re looking for. Some people book occasional sessions simply for relaxation and time to switch off, while others choose ongoing support through The First Shift or Break the Loop programme. You are never under pressure to commit to more sessions than feels right for you.

Can sound therapy help with stress or anxiety?

Many people find sound therapy supportive during periods of stress, overwhelm or anxious thinking. While it is not a medical treatment, sessions are designed to support relaxation, rest and nervous system wellbeing alongside existing healthcare where appropriate.

Will I be asleep during the session?

Some people drift into very deep rest or light sleep, while others remain awake throughout the session. Both experiences are completely normal.

What happens after the session?

At the end of the session, there is time to gently re-ground and reflect on how you are feeling. Where appropriate, you may also be offered simple aftercare suggestions to support relaxation between sessions.

What if I find it difficult to relax?

This is extremely common, especially for people who spend a lot of time feeling mentally busy or overwhelmed.

There is no right or wrong way to experience a session, and you are never expected to “switch off” perfectly.

Even simply taking time to pause and rest can feel supportive.

Can I ask questions before booking?
Absolutely. You’re very welcome to get in touch if you’d like to ask anything or check whether sound therapy is right for you.
