The First Shift

What happens during the session

Arrival & Check-in

We begin with a short, focused check-in to understand what’s present for you.

This might include how you’ve been feeling physically, what’s been on your mind, or simply what’s been difficult to switch off from.

This isn’t talking therapy, and there’s no need to explain everything or go into detail. You don’t need to have the right words.

You’re simply invited to share as much or as little as feels comfortable.

This helps gently orient the session around what your system is currently holding, so the work can meet you where you are.

The Sound Session

You’ll lie comfortably on a therapy couch, supported with blankets and cushions, while I work with sound around you.

I use one primary instrument during the session, played in a precise and responsive way to guide your nervous system into a slower, more regulated state.

As the sound builds and settles, the body begins to soften, breathing slows, and mental activity quietens.

You don’t need to do anything.

Many people experience a deeply immersive state, somewhere between wakefulness and sleep, where the usual patterns of thinking begin to loosen.

This is where the shift begins.

Return & Reflection

At the end of the session, the sound is gradually brought to a close, allowing your system to return at its own pace.

We take a moment to notice what feels different. This could be physical, mental, or emotional.

There’s no pressure to analyse or explain your experience.

This part is simply about recognising the shift that’s taken place.

Because that awareness matters. It helps your system begin to understand that another way of feeling is possible.

Working with what’s present

Many people come expecting a sound bath.

What they experience is something different.

The First Shift is designed to:

  • Interrupt the loop your system is stuck in

  • Show your body what regulation actually feels like

  • Create a clear contrast between “before” and “after”

That contrast is important. Because once you’ve felt it, your system knows it’s possible to return there.

What you may notice afterwards

Everyone experiences this work differently, but you might notice:

  • A sense of calm or quiet you haven’t felt in a while

  • Mental clarity or space from repetitive thoughts

  • Physical release or deep relaxation

  • A subtle but clear shift in how you feel

For some, the shift is immediate. For others, it unfolds more gradually over time. Like anything involving the nervous system, the effects tend to build with repetition.

Where things begin to change

The First Shift is a structured 1:1 session designed to help you step out of the loop you’ve been stuck in, even if you’re not fully sure what that loop is yet.

It’s often the point where people realise this isn’t just about relaxation. Something starts to shift.

This session is for you if

  • Your mind doesn’t switch off, even when things are “fine”

  • You feel stuck in the same thoughts, reactions, or patterns

  • You’re overwhelmed, but can’t fully explain why

  • You’re tired of managing how you feel, rather than changing it

  • You know something needs to shift, but don’t know where to start

What this session is

The First Shift is not a sound bath, and it’s not just a relaxation session.

It combines carefully applied sound with a structured check-in and reflection process, allowing us to begin understanding what’s happening beneath the surface, not just stepping away from it.

This is where we start working with patterns, not just symptoms.

This is where the work begins

The First Shift is a powerful standalone session. But for lasting change, this work builds over time.

If it feels right, you can continue into The Break the Loop Programme, a structured series of sessions designed to help you move from temporary relief to real change.

(No pressure. Just an option.)
